Kae Newcomb, Drawing room, 2011. Installation view, detail. Floor4Art Gallery, New York. May 14 2011. Mixed media (Yarn, nylon, carpeting, and video), 5 ft x 8 ft x 5 ft. Photo: Norma Marquez Orozco

Kae Newcomb plays with photography and drawing to explore perceptions of time and space. Drawing Room is a floating three-dimensional contour line drawing, created with yarn, nylon strings and shadows, depicting a suspended living room. The delineated furniture forms are simultaneously solid and fragile. A video of an open window with billowing curtains floating in light and a breeze is projected onto the drawing creating an additional drawing of shadows. The atmosphere of the living room invites the viewer to enter. The installation is a reflection on the idea of the impermanence.
